My apologies for the absence lately. I will return to writing soon! In the meantime, and to tide you over until then…

My co-hosts and I recently devoted two episodes of MindMatters to James Lindsay’s new book, Race Marxism: The Truth about Critical Race Theory and Practice. You can watch them below (or listen to them on most podcast platforms).

Michael McConkey over at The Circulation of the Elites wrote a response below. As I said in one of the episodes, at what point does a Marx-inspired ideology cease having the honor of being called “Marxism” and simply become “Marx-ish”? McConkey goes more in-depth:

The Circulation of Elites
KNOW YOUR ENEMY
This started as a comment on the MindMatters YouTube page, but quickly got to be ridiculously long for that format. So, instead I’ve expanded it and put it here, with a link from there, to here. It then obviously, originally, was explicitly directed at the watchers of that show, though I hope it may be of interest to subscribers to this substack. I real…

On my criticism of Lindsay’s take on gnosticism (courtesy of Voegelin), check out our interview with Arthur Versluis:

We’ve got an episode on Peter Turchin’s Ultrasociety: How 10,000 Years of War Made Humans the Greatest Cooperators on Earth coming soon. That book was the inspiration for my last post here, to which John Carter at Postcards from Barsoom responded:

Postcards From Barsoom
How Weaponry Organises Society
This post was inspired by a few recent pieces. First, there's Harrison Koehli's essay at the Political Ponerology blog looking at the connection between the growth of complex societies and the evolution of violence, where he describes Peter Turchin's thesis that the primary selective pressure shaping our social order was warfare rather than agriculture…

If Turchin’s work intrigues you, check out his Cliodynamics blog here. He’s busy finishing two new books, so isn’t as active as he used to be, but his latest post gives an update on his work on “big gods and big societies.”

Winston Smith over at Escaping Mass Psychosis continues his series on Iain McGilchrist’s work in these posts:

Escaping Mass Psychosis
The Master Betrayed #4
In the conclusion of Iain McGilchrist’s book The Master and His Emissary, the question is asked, “What would the left hemisphere’s world look like?” if the left hemisphere of the brain “became so far…

Escaping Mass Psychosis
Are You A Machine?
In chapter 12 of Iain McGilchrist’s book The Matter With Things, he elegantly debunks the myth that the living, organic world is anything like a machine. With many examples of totally un-machine like…

And L.P. Koch, one of my co-hosts on MindMatters, has published his review of volume one of McGilchrist’s The Matter with Things:

McGilchrist's The Matter With Things: The Right Way of Engaging Materialism
Those of you who have followed my posts here know that I have repeatedly referred to Iain McGilchrist’s magnum opus, The Matter With Things. Time to review the first volume. I haven’t read the second volume yet; in fact, I wrote parts of this text straight after reading the introduction. This has generally proven to be a useful strategy for me: you sort …

And finally, if you’re at all interested in the history of the Bible, and the possibility that it is a Hellenistic book (i.e. much younger than pretty much anyone thought, up until the last decade or two), Russell Gmirkin’s new book is out. It is stellar. Just get a load of the title: Plato’s Timaeus and the Biblical Creation Accounts: Cosmic Monotheism and Terrestrial Polytheism in the Primordial History. We’ll have him on MindMatters again to discuss it as soon as I finish reading it. Here’s our previous interview with him:

Ok, I think that’s more than enough for now!

p.s. I forgot to mention! I was recently on Hrvoje Morić’s show for an hour to discuss ponerology. You can listen in here.

Awesome - thanks for the links - love the podcast (compels me to keep walking longer to hear the end of the conversation - so in a way your podcast is good for motivating exercise - not sure if you can market yourselves that way lol). I'm getting though Race Marxism and it's so helpful hearing your commentary on it (as well as following Lindsay's podcast of course - although I often don't have time for some of the very lengthy talks he delivers). Good stuff!
