In this second workshop, we summarized and discussed Chapter 1 (Introduction) and the first parts of Chapter 2 (pages 1-24), including extended discussions on the following topics:
why existing books on totalitarianism can never explain its essence or provide effective solutions
why specialized language is required to understand new and complex phenomena like evil
the various flaws of the natural worldview
the place of free will in Lobaczewski’s framework (with reference to Dabrowski’s three factors), and how this relates to the psychobiology of evil
the flaws inherent in the foundations of Western civilization resulting in a general inability to see reality and a tendency to impose simplistic abstractions on complex realities
During the next session, we will continue discussing Chapter 2, specifically the sections on “The Human Individual” and “Society.” For readers with the print copy, this will be pages 24-53.
The next session is scheduled for Sunday (not Saturday), December 17 at 1:00 pm.
